Automation Airmanship was first introduced to the global aviation community at Bombardier’s Safety Standown almost two decades ago. Over the years, the topic has been included in every Standown since, in the General Session and in Workshops—exposing thousands of aviation professionals to the principles that the very best glass cockpit pilots use from day to day. In the nearly two decades since its introduction, many changes within aircraft cockpit design, regulator oversight, and accident investigation have influenced Automation Airmanship’s content and practicality, making it one of the most valuable vocational assets for contemporary flight crews. This talk will cover what we know about glass cockpit airmanship, how we came to adapt to changes in the technology, the workforce and the airspace we operate in. Most importantly, it will refresh attendees’ knowledge of how high performing crews get the most out of the modern cockpit.
