We often find ourselves making fast and automatic decisions when placed in familiar situations. We are able to choose actions based on knowledge, experience, reason and memories. We know what works and what doesn’t. However, when we encounter unfamiliar situations, the more likely we are to make mistakes. It takes time for us to gather the truth and facts in order to weigh the benefits against the risks. If misinformation or bias filters into our decision-making process, the desired outcome is often jeopardized.
