Jay, known for his passion for safety management, started his aviation career as an F/A-18 maintenance technician in the US Navy. Regularly ranked as the top airman in his command, Jay became known as the go-to safe for flight inspection trainer for new airworthiness inspectors. Jay served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Phantom Fury, and retired from Navy service in 2007.
Jay was moved by the number of serious injuries experienced by his colleagues, and one experienced himself. As a result, Jay has studied safety management systems, aviation management, and industrial and organizational psychology and applies these skills to increase safety performance and excellence in aviation maintenance environments.
Jay manages quality and safety management within some of the industry’s largest maintenance organizations to include Part 91, 145, 137, and 121 operations. Jay has coached and presented to more than 10,000 maintenance professionals on the topics of safety management, human factors, and human performance.
Currently living in Colorado with his wife Amanda, their two daughters Daya (6) and Robbie (1), their Sheppard-mix Cricket, Jay works at the Denver Flight Standards District Office of the Federal Aviation Administration.
