Impacts of Influence From the first time, I climbed into the cockpit of an A-7 Corsair to my time as a Board Member at the National Transportation Safety Board, my aviation safety career has been influenced by the mentorship and leadership of numerous aviation professionals, my participation and the shared experience of those in my community, and the love and support of my family and friends.

Influence shapes one’s behavior, decisions and perspectives and can come from a variety of sources. The NTSB’s accident reports can also influence an operation or pilot about what not do or provide lessons about how to improve safety in one’s flight operation or in the cockpit. 

Recently, the NTSB has investigated several near-miss incidents in aviation. Each incident could have been a tragedy, and it’s important that the aviation community learn from these near misses to ensure we maintain the highest level of safety and trust in aviation.
