In 2024, it is likely that a final rule will be issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to expand the applicability of 14 CFR Part 5—safety management systems to business aircraft operators, among other entity and certificate types. In this workshop, we will review the federal rule-making process, dissect the latest proposed rule (NPRM FAA-2021-0419) for expanding 14 CFR Part 5, synthesize the public comments submitted on the Federal Register and discuss Safety Management System (SWS) implementation and action plans in anticipation of the final rule. Notably, any organization which currently maintains an SMS may still be interested in this workshop, as we will be discussing how gap analyses tools may be useful in determining compliance.
